At Tudor Grange Primary Academy Hockley Heath the children have access to a rich, broad and engaging musical education. All children have regular music lessons and the opportunity to develop their musical skills and knowledge across the five key music disciplines: performing, singing, playing an instrument, composing and listening.

Music lessons build upon fundamental knowledge and skills from previous learning.  Interleaving with existing knowledge to ensure children are challenged and progress as musicians. Lessons are based on the 5 key music disciplines: performing, singing, playing an instrument, composing and listening. Music is taught in a fun and engaging way to give children an opportunity to express themselves creatively while also developing their cultural appreciation through listening and appraising. Singing is central to the curriculum. Children learn to sing through class lessons and regular whole school singing assembly, building their confidence and understanding of being part of something bigger.  At TGPAHH we believe that all children should be given the opportunity to learn to play an instrument and take part in a live performance with an audience. Children can also choose to take part in additional individual or group music lessons and ensembles from peripatetic music teachers.

Children are engaged with their music lessons and enjoy a fun and varied curriculum that supports their personal and social development. Children gain happy and positive memories of taking part in musical performances and are well prepared for a smooth transition into Key Stage 3.
