Protective Behaviours Curriculum
The Protective Behaviours curriculum is a whole school initiative that teaches children about the rights of the child and that they all have the right to feel safe all the time.
Thrive
The Thrive Approach draws on insights from these fields to provide a powerful way of working with children and young people that supports optimal social and emotional development. Mrs Perrin will be our qualified Thrive practitioner and she is able to work on a 1:1 basis with children to identify their needs and carry out therapeutic work. Parental permission must be given for a full Thrive assessment to be carried out.
Class teacher support
The class teacher is the first port of call for all children and parents. If you wish to discuss a matter with them, please make contact via the school office on 01564 783 161 or office@hockley-heath.solihull.sch.uk
Working with Parents
Parental feedback is valued here and we welcome opportunities to develop strong links between home and school. We recognise that home and school relationships are integral to supporting pupils. Parents are welcomed along to Parents’ evenings and curriculum workshops and are encouraged to provide feedback through parental surveys.
Jigsaw/PSHE
All children are taught a comprehensive PSHE Programme that includes the statutory Relationships and Health Education. The purpose of our PSHE curriculum is to support children with the development of their emotional literacy, build resilience and nurture their physical and mental health. This programme also supports children to keep themselves safe and to develop relationships with trusted adults both in and out of school.

CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services)
Known locally as SOLAR, this consists of Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, Barnardo’s and Autism West Midlands. These agencies work together to provide emotional wellbeing and mental health services for children and young people in Solihull. They provide multi-disciplinary assessment and treatment of children and young people with mental health or severe emotional and behavioural difficulties.

SISS
Solihull’s Specialist Inclusion Support Service (SISS) is a Local Authority Service which supports children and young people who have special educational needs or disabilities. The service is divided into five teams, each of which specialises in a particular area of SEND. Specialist advisory teachers and assistants, known as inclusion support practitioners, who are experienced and additionally qualified in their particular area, work with the children and young people in their school or nursery setting and sometimes with their families too. In addition, their role often involves training school staff and liaising with other agencies to ensure the best outcomes for that child or young person.

Warwickshire STS
We subscribe to Warwickshire Specialist Teaching Service, which again supports children and young people and their families with special educational needs or disabilities. An advisory teacher supports our SENDCo to assess and review needs and provision across school from Nursery to Year 6, working across all five areas of need. STS complete our single assessments of need (looking at several aspects of a child’s learning and development). These inform our teaching and support good practice but are also often part of the evidencing process for referrals to other more specialist agencies e.g. assessments for Autism or Speech, Language and Communication Needs or help to support a request to the local authority for an Education Health and Care Plan.

Educational Psychologist
Where a high level of support is needed for a young person and their family, we may work alongside the Community Educational Psychology Team to find the most beneficial strategies, resources and direct support.
Other NHS agencies
We also refer to and work alongside other NHS agencies including Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, The University of Birmingham Hospitals Trust ADHD Clinic and The Specialist Assessment Service (for multi-disciplinary assessments of need, including Autism).
